Tatonka is a complete road legal vehicle, unique because
of its inbuilt capacity for extreme off road, salvage/rescue
and multipurpose usage. The vehicle enables access to many
areas that are inaccessible to standard type on road recovery
vehicles.
Tatonka is a short wheel based 4x4 high-low ratio vehicle
equipped with maximum sized flotation tyres front and rear,
which give the vehicle superior grip and traction (not unlike
a road legal tractor).
The rear differential is fitted with a Detroit locker unit
supplying constant drive to both rear wheels simultaneously.
For more extreme off road situations, an auxiliary set of
wheels and tyres permanently fitted with maximum grip studded
chains, is available. The vehicle is fitted with recovery
winches both front and rear. The front winch being an electric
18,000 lb straightpull capacity (remote controlled). The rear
winch being a hydraulic 15,000 lb straightpull winch. Both
winches are able to be operated simultaneously if required.
It is also equipped with a three stage crane which has a
three tonne lifting capacity with a reach of 7.5 metres.
